Meet Dave & Kelly

Two Trees Art Gallery is the home of award-winning landscape and wildlife photographer Dave Hutchison and his wife, nature-inspired mixed media painter Kelly Hutchison. They consider themselves dendrophiles—lovers of trees and forests—and feel it was the trees who brought them together on the spring day they first met in North Saanich, at ȽÁU, WELṈEW̱/John Dean Provincial Park on Vancouver Island. Thus, the name "Two Trees."

Their shared vision grew into two ways of sharing nature with you.
Two Trees Art Publishing was founded several years ago to bring the restorative power of the natural world into homes, workplaces, and healing spaces. The company creates, publishes, and licenses high-quality nature photography for individuals, businesses, and healthcare environments—from fine art prints and wall coverings to cards, calendars, journals, and its coffee table book—each designed to inspire calm, connection, and a sense of wonder.

Two Trees Art Gallery, located in Qualicum Beach on the shores of the Salish Sea, is the retail home of Two Trees Art Publishing. This welcoming space is where artists, collectors, and art lovers can come together, discover meaningful work, and experience the beauty of creative expression.

Dave Hutchison's collection of images from the Pacific Northwest and beyond spans over 20 years, capturing birds, bears, whales, landscapes, forests, florals, waterfalls, and more.

Kelly Hutchison finds her muse in nature, and her playful art reflects the joy, comfort, and peace it offers when she takes the time to slow down, be present, and notice the little things.

Together, they've spent years photographing and appreciating this landscape side by side, culminating in their co-authored BC bestselling book, Vancouver Island: The Art of the Landscape.

Two Trees believes that nature is not only beautiful, but is profoundly healing.

Dave Hutchison

With more than two decades of photography experience, Dave has over 100 images published in books, magazines and calendars around the globe. He is inspired by both landscape and wildlife photography and has photographed across Western Canada, the US, and parts of Europe. Some of Dave’s recent permanent art installations include the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital and the new Cowichan District Hospital (Quw'utsun Valley Hospital) on Vancouver Island.

Dave is passionate about preserving old-growth forests and works to increase public awareness through his nature photography. He feels blessed to live on Vancouver Island and to share its landscape through his images—aspiring to bring nature into people’s homes so they can experience places they cannot reach or perhaps be inspired to visit.

In the Spring of 2022, Dave earned his Craftsman of Photographic Arts with PPOC, and in 2020 won the prestigious “Best in Class” Award in Fine Art at the 2020 Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC) National Image Competition. He also earned his Advanced Operations Drone Pilot License, which has helped him add drone photography to his work, including commercial opportunities. Dave lived in Sidney, BC for 21 years. He now resides with his wife Kelly in Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

Kelly Hutchison

Kelly Hutchison is a mixed media artist, nature photographer, tree lover, and writer. She graduated from Langara College’s Fine Art Diploma program in 2001 and completed the Mastery Program through the Milan Art Institute in 2022. She is the co-author, with her husband Dave, of the BC bestseller Vancouver Island: The Art of the Landscape. Her essays on nature, creativity, and place have also been published in regional magazines.

When she is not painting or writing, Kelly works as an ANFT Certified Forest Therapy Guide through her business, Salish Sea Nature Connections, where she shares the restorative practice of forest therapy. Her creative process begins with time in nature—walking slowly outdoors, sitting by the ocean, or immersing herself among the trees, taking in the natural world with her senses. She is also a Reiki Master—bringing that same contemplative, grounded quality into both her art and guiding work.

Kelly’s paintings are known for their bright, cheerful colour, layered textures, and uplifting sense of joy. She works across a wide range of media, including Caran d’Ache water-soluble pastel, collage, pen, ink, graphite, acrylic, photography, and oil. Her process includes collecting unique papers to build depth and texture within her collage layers.

Viewers have shared that Kelly’s work “tugs at heartstrings” and leaves them feeling happy, uplifted, and alive.

She lives in Qualicum Beach with Dave and their small dog, where she continues to paint, write, and guide others toward a slower, more rooted relationship with nature.
